Dael Fry could fulfill another childhood dream on Friday when England U21s host Scotland in his hometown.
The Young Lions face the Auld Enemy at the Riverside Stadium and the Middlesbrough man is hoping to be involved.
And the 20-year-old admits he won’t be short of support on Teesside with plenty of family and friends getting in touch to ask for tickets.“Representing England at any level is unbelievable but to get the chance to do it in my hometown will be something special,” he told the official England match programme.
“I’ll have everyone close to me there, and I know the Boro fans love a bit of England too, so to play in front of those people I grew up with for my country will be something else.
“I’ve seen a few Boro players in the past do this, I remember Ben Gibson doing it [against Germany in March 2015], and I just can’t wait to hopefully get my chance.
“Any England versus Scotland game is huge, and for me to be able to be involved in one in my hometown, it’s like a dream come true.”
It’s already been a memorable year for Fry, who won the U20 World Cup with many of his current U21 squad-mates in June before starting the new season in the Boro first team.
