Marc Guehi hailed England’s U17 World Cup title success as the best moment of his short life.
The Chelsea defender has been an ever-present in the Young Lions team throughout the competition in India.
And he capped off the World Cup campaign in the best possible way, with the fourth goal to help seal England’s 5-2 victory over Spain.
“It’s a dream come true and the best moment of my life,” he said.
“I’m just really, really happy to have scored but it’s all about the team performance.
“Right from the beginning of the competition, the first game against Chile we did so well, but to get here to the Final and beat Spain 5-2 is an amazing feeling.”
After a bright start to the game, England found themselves two goals down after Spain’s Sergio Gomez put La Roja ahead.
But when Rhian Brewster headed home his eighth of the competition to give Steve Cooper’s side a lifeline, it gave England a platform to build on in the second half against a team who left them heart-broken in May at the European Championship final.
“The coach said to just keep going, doing the same thing because we were on top and we kept believing,” revealed Guehi.
“We have the quality, we have a good team so we knew we could do it.
“The European championship was in the past, so it wasn’t like revenge, we’re just delighted to win the World Cup.”
