Manchester FA have been hard at work running a recreational small sided mini league for local clubs for Women to engage in a healthy lifestyle through football. This league forms part of their legacy work for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.
The Summer Series League was open to Women and Non-Binary individuals on Sunday afternoons for six weeks to play competitive five-a-side football. Each week saw 10 people in each team, with a total of 80 individual participants across the series. As a result, Manchester Women’s Flexi-League was launched with 15 teams entering a 9-a-side league.
The league was a catalyst for the women to interact with each other and the local football structure in their area. Karen Bardsley, the Manchester/Trafford Legacy Chair was on hand to explain the Legacy Plan and encouraged the women to feedback, with the aim to implement their suggestions into the following season and long-term strategy.
One participant said: “It’s brilliant to meet other women just like us – thank you to Manchester FA for providing us the opportunity to play competitively.”
A member of staff from Manchester said: “The women are out there and would like to play it is just about giving them the opportunity that suits them!”
