Wayne Rooney shot himself into the record books as he hit a stunning 20-yard effort to inspire Manchester United to a crucial 3-2 comeback win at Hull City.
Rooney’s Boxing Day strike made him only the second player to reach 150 goals for a single club in the Premier League after Thierry Henry at Arsenal.
Rooney said: "The ball bounced nicely for me and I had a go. It was a good goal for us at a good time of the game."
Fellow England forward Theo Walcott continued his impressive comeback from injury with two goals in Arsenal’s 3-1 win at West Ham.
Carlton Cole gave the Hamers the lead before Walcott sent Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League table with his two quick goals, including a rare header.
Elsewhere in London, England defender Kyle Walker starred as Tottenham claimed a 1-1 draw with West Brom in Tim Sherwood's first official game in charge.
Michael Dawson and Danny Rose also played for Spurs, while promising young striker Saido Berahino came on for the Baggies late on.
Ashley Cole shone on his first Premier League appearance since 2 November as Chelsea beat Swansea 1-0. The England left-back looked assured throughout and fed Eden Hazard for the side's winning goal in the 29th minute.
Three Lions star Frank Lampard also featured for the Blues, coming on in the 67th minute, while Gary Cahill was an unused substitute at Stamford Bridge.
Jay Rodriquez scored twice and Rickie Lambert was also on the scoresheet as Southampton won 3-0 at Cardiff to cement the Saints' place in the top ten of the Premier League table.
England colleague Adam Lallana helped create the first for Rodriguez and Lambert provided the assist for his second. Rodriquez repaid the compliment by setting up Lambert for the Saints’ third of the day.
Meanwhile, Three Lions goalkeeper Joe Hart kept his starting place in the Manchester City side as they came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 and rise to second spot, a point behind Arsenal.
