Nathaniel Clyne has joined Liverpool from Southampton, the Anfield club has confirmed.

The England defender has signed a long-term deal, and becomes the Reds’ sixth signing of the summer.

"I'm delighted and it's a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history," he told LiverpoolFC.com.

"As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through."

The England right-back, who made his Three Lions debut against Slovenia in November 2014, joins James Milner, Danny Ings and Joe Gomez as new English arrivals at Anfield ahead of the 2015-16 season.

And Clyne revealed he is looking forward to developing under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers.

"The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player," he added. 

“It's definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential."

As well as the chance to compete for trophies and work with Rodgers, the 24-year-old also said he is delighted to be able to call one of the game’s most iconic stadiums home.  

"I've played at Anfield before and know what the atmosphere is all about,” he added. 

“It's a great atmosphere and will make me rise to the challenge. 

“I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully it can push me on to putting on good performances."

Clyne – who was voted Southampton’s Player of the Year in 2010-11 – has played five times for England. He has also represented the Three Lions at Under-19s and Under-21s level. 

The Crystal Palace academy graduate could make his debut on Liverpool's pre-season tour to the Far East and Australia. They take on a Thai Alls Stars XI on 14 July.

They then travel to Brisbane and Adelaide for two furthers fixtures, before completing the tour against a Malaysia XI on 24 July.

Following a final friendly against HJK Helsinki on 1 August, they kick-off their Premier League season at Stoke City on 8 August.
